Nukenteko jatkui lauantaiaamuna. Posliiniosat oli poltettu ensimmäisen kerran ja nyt niitä päästiin työstämään lisää. Tein lähinnä arpia ja tatuointeja sekä lisäsin hieman purppuran väristä maalia haavoihin, silmiin ja poskille.
Doll making continued on Saturday morning. The porcelain parts were fired for the first time and now was the time to work them further. I made scars and tattoos and added a bit of red/purple paint to the wounds, eyes and cheeks.
Kun maalaukset oli viimeistelty, oli vuorossa vartalon tekoa. Vartaloa varten piti tehdä kaavat ja leikata kangas niiden avulla. Sivelin leikattujen kangaspalojen reunoihin hieman liimaa, etteivät ne alkaisi purkaantua ompeluvaiheessa. Kun vartalokankaat oli ommeltu, vuorossa oli niiden yhdistäminen jalkoihin. Pienemmälle nukelle kangas meni jalkojen sisään ja isommalle jalkojen päälle. Molemmilla oli siis hieman erilaiset jalat. Tämän jälkeen vartalon sisälle laitettiin vanua ja rautalankaa, jotta vartalo saisi hieman muotoa ja sitä pystyisi taivuttelemaan. Jalkaosiin maalasin kengät, mutta ajattelin joka tapauksessa tehdä nukeille erilliset kengät.
When we had finished painting it was time to make the body. We had to make paper models and cut the fabric with those. I put some glue to the edges of my fabric so that it wouldn’t fray so easily when I stitched the parts together. When we had stitched the fabric parts it was time to connect them to the feet. For the smaller doll I put the fabric inside the feet and for the bigger doll outside the feet. They both had a bit different feet so this was relevant. After that we put some cotton wool and wire inside the body so that it would get a good shape and that we could bend the doll in different positions. I painted shoes to both dolls feet but I decided that I’ll make shoes for them anyway.
Vartalon valmistuttua, vuorossa olivat kädet. Isolla nukella oli pitkät kädet, jotka kiinnitettiin rautalangalla olkapäistä pääosaan. Tämä oli mielestäni huomattavasti helpompi vaihtoehto. Käsien laiton jälkeen vartalon yläosa kiinnitettiin loppuun vartaloon kuumaliimalla. Hieman siistimpääkin jälkeä olisin voinut tehdä, mutta hei, tämä oli vasta ensimmäinen tekemäni nukke ;)
It was time for the arms when the body was ready. The bigger doll had long arms which were attached with iron wire from the shoulders to the head part. This was the easier way to do the arms, in my opinion. After attaching the arms we attached the head part to the rest of the body with hot-setting adhesive. I could’ve made it neater but hey, this is the first doll I’ve made ;)
Pienemmällä nukella oli ns. lyhyet kädet, jotka piti työstää samalla tavalla, kuin vartalo. Käsien väliin siis tuli kangassuikale, jonka sisään täytyi laittaa rautalankaa ja vanua. Kuvistakin huomaa, että näistä käsistä tuli himpun verran liian pitkät. Näitä aion lyhentää myöhemmin! Käsipötkylä ommeltiin vartaloon kiinni ja sen jälkeen pääosa kiinnitettiin kuumaliimalla.
The smaller doll had short arms which were done in the same way as the body. We put some fabric between the arms and some wire and cotton wool inside of it. You can see from the pics that those arms are a bit long. I’m going to make them shorter afterwards! Arms were stitched to the body and the head part was attached with hot-setting adhesive.
Tästä työ jatkuu pienemmän nuken käsien lyhennyksellä, hiusten laittamisella ja vaatteiden suunnittelulla/tekemisellä.
The work continues with making the smaller dolls arms shorter, making them hair and planning/making them some clothes.
